First total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999. The path of totality runs from the Arctic near Taymyr Peninsula (Russia) across Greenland, Iceland and the North Atlantic, then down through northern and eastern Spain to the Balearic Islands. Maximum duration is about 2m18s, reached in the North Atlantic west of Iceland. From the UK and Ireland (outside the path), expect an impressive partial eclipse, with the Sun's disc more than 90% covered at maximum.

The eclipse's path is unusually shaped — it starts at sunrise on the Taymyr Peninsula in Arctic Russia, arcs up and over the North Pole (passing within about 246 km of it), then sweeps back down through Greenland, Iceland, the North Atlantic, and into Spain before ending near the Balearics. This polar-projection map (viewed from above the North Pole) shows the whole thing at once, with UTC and British Summer Time (UTC+1) marked at intervals along the centreline.
At ~87.8°N (17:08 UT), the Sun is only 14° above the horizon, so the umbra hits the ground at a shallow angle and stretches out into a long oval rather than the near-circular patch you'd get with the Sun overhead. Using NASA's path width (275 km, the short axis) and an elongation factor of 1/sin(14°) ≈ 4.1, the footprint works out to roughly 1,140 km long by 275 km wide.
