Observed: notes MCP tools (gdata-server) work fine in Claude text chat but become unavailable in voice mode. Tool calls fail with 'not registered' after working in text, then work again when switching back to text.
GitHub: anthropics/claude-ai-mcp #146 — officially closed as "not planned" (state_reason: not_planned via API). Closed by Anthropic collaborator localden on 2026-05-12.
localden comment: "Voice conversations run on a different execution path from text chat and connector tools are not currently supported there." No further developer engagement. No documentation update.
• Affects Web, Android, iOS, and macOS desktop app — all confirmed in comments.• Claude has no internal awareness of the limitation and hallucinates explanations when tools fail in voice mode.• Voice mode uses Haiku regardless of model selection — user-observed (caseyWebb, 2026-06-22), not officially confirmed by Anthropic.• Community reaction to the "not planned" close was strongly negative (9 👎, 6 😕 on the Anthropic response).• Multiple requests to at least document the limitation; none actioned as of 2026-06-30.
Reproduced live during Newport/David Lloyd travel session: Misc:pg_query worked fine on typed turns, then failed (tool not registered) immediately after a voice turn, then worked again once John typed a plain "x" to switch back. John's independently confirmed pattern: typing is always reliable; voice reliably breaks tool access; the broken state can persist into subsequent typed turns until a fresh typed message clears it. Consistent with the #146 execution-path explanation above.
Separate issue opened 2026-07-02: #523 / #524 — custom connectors visible in Settings but making zero HTTP requests during live conversations (text mode too). Affects multiple independent production servers simultaneously. First-party connectors (Notion, Gmail, GCal) unaffected. Open as of 2026-07-02 — may be temporary.
None for voice mode — MCP tools require text mode. For the July 2 regression, no workaround identified yet; may resolve itself.
