Basel/Mulhouse is the natural airport for Colmar. Direct Bristol–Basel Mon/Fri can suit a Mon–Fri trip. Direct Bristol–Zürich is another possibility; Zürich in/Basel out is worth pricing if Zürich is included, but Basel is simpler for an Alsace-only trip.
For a longer stay add Eguisheim, Sélestat, Munster or Basel. If staying over 5–6 or 12–13 Dec, prioritise Ribeauvillé.
Colmar — strongest practical all-round base, rail connections and Christmas shuttle to Eguisheim. Examples previously considered: Colmar Hotel, Grand Hôtel Bristol, Hôtel Quatorze.
Riquewihr — very quaint and intimate but less convenient as a transport hub. Examples: Hôtel A l'Oriel, Hôtel de la Couronne, Best Western Plus Le Schoenenbourg.
Eguisheim — tiny postcard-like village, quieter, with dedicated Colmar Christmas shuttle. Examples: Auberge Alsacienne, Hostellerie du Château, La Ferme du Pape.
Strasbourg — larger and livelier; probably best as 1–2 nights paired with Colmar or a village.
Sélestat — useful practical alternative if accommodation is substantially cheaper; rail to Colmar and Strasbourg and potentially good for a hybrid rail/car plan.
A split stay looks most interesting for a week: 2–3 nights in Eguisheim or Riquewihr plus 2–4 nights in Colmar (or possibly Strasbourg). Another option is Colmar plus a Friday/weekend village loop.
