Breakeven against pay-as-you-go is £1,561.40 ÷ £158.69 = 9.8 travel days. At 14 days the Monthly is comfortably past that, and the margin grows because the Mon/Wed/Thu pattern continues beyond week 4.
Two things make it beat the Flexi Season decisively. First, the Flexi only provides 8 days in 28, but this pattern needs 11–14 days in the same window — three days a week averages 12 per 28-day period, so a Flexi always runs out early and needs topping up at full day-return rates. Second, the Flexi is Bristol Parkway to London Terminals only, so every day carries an extra £8.90 TfL cap; the Monthly Travelcard folds Zones 1–6 in at no extra cost.
The Zones 1–6 Travelcard also covers week 2 without a separate weekly pass, since Waterloo sits inside the zone boundary, and covers Canary Wharf on the other weeks.
Staying over only saves money when travel is being paid for per trip. Under pay-as-you-go, a Mon-out/Thu-back week replaces three returns with one: £149.79 + 3 nights at £51 + £26.70 TfL = £329.49, against £476.07 for three day trips — a saving of about £147 a week.
Once a Monthly Season is bought, that logic disappears. Every day's travel is already paid for, so going home on Tuesday costs nothing extra and the hotel can only add to the total. Three nights in week 1 is therefore a £153 convenience spend, not a saving: it buys avoiding three early starts and three late runs home during the first week back, and nothing else.
Worth noting the Tuesday night is paid for on a day with no office attendance, so the room is being held on a day that could otherwise be spent at home.

The £51/night hotel rate is a specific non-refundable ExCel booking and is not a general rate; a Waterloo-side room in week 2 would likely cost more. Day-return pricing assumes Advance Singles remain available at £147 for each date, which is not guaranteed close to travel.
