Goal: stop Instagram notification mail cluttering the Outlook Inbox by having popit3 deliver ja@critchley.biz to an IMAP folder on gravlax and delete it from Live, using the existing config-driven route mechanism (popit3/imap-delivery).
A recipient count over the latest 100 Outlook Inbox messages (23 Sep – 5 Oct 2026, via the misc outlook_search tool) put ja@critchley.biz top with 13 messages, all from Instagram (account john_appreciates): 8 posts recaps, 4 follow suggestions, 1 stories recap. Their presence in the Inbox implies ja@ has no popit3 route today.
⬜ Confirm current state — check imap_folders.yml and the process_emails map for any existing ja@critchley.biz entry, and check the popit3 log that ja@ mail is being fetched (per-recipient counts) but left unhandled.
⬜ Check for other Instagram addresses — search Outlook (all folders) for Instagram senders to see whether any other alias receives Instagram mail that should share the route.
⬜ Choose disposition — file into an IMAP folder (proposed name Instagram) or drop outright via the spam blocklist. Default: IMAP folder, so nothing is lost.
⬜ Add the route — one line in imap_folders.yml: ja@critchley.biz: Instagram. Folder is created and subscribed on first delivery. Confirm the dispatcher matches the bare address form Instagram uses in To:.
⬜ Clear the backlog — run (or wait for the hourly :25) --reprocess so ja@ mail already in the store and still on Live is delivered and deleted. Check whether messages fetched before the route existed are still eligible for deletion via POP3.
⬜ Verify — outlook_search(recipient="ja@critchley.biz", all_folders=true) returns nothing new after the next run; messages appear in the Instagram folder on gravlax with no duplicates.
⬜ Update docs — add the route to the table in popit3/email-routing; tick this note off in popit3/todo.
⬜ Reduce volume at source: turn off Instagram email notifications for john_appreciates.
⬜ Repeat the recipient count over the whole Inbox (1,148 messages) to find the next routing candidates — e.g. john.msm.cc (MoneySupermarket, 11 of 100). A server-side recipient-count tool in the misc connector would make this a single call.
